They may be quick, they may even be nearly pain-free, but they are still needles! Trypanophobia, or a fear of needles, is more common than you think. That said, you don’t have to suffer from a phobia to be nervous before your appointment. You may have questions too! What should I avoid before BOTOX® Cosmetic injections? How many injections do I need? How do I ensure the best results after my visit?
The answers to these and other questions are readily available here at Vita Aesthetics & Wellness. We strive to prepare our clients as best as we can before they commit to any treatment. This extends to even the simplest procedures like BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. For in-depth information, we welcome you to give us a call or schedule a consultation. For now, here are five tips for preparing for your BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, delivered by our experts.
Tip 1: Avoid These Medications Before Your Session
While BOTOX® Cosmetic is relatively safe, adverse reactions are possible if you are actively taking medications. Muscle relaxants, blood thinners, and NSAIDs need to be avoided for 1-2 weeks before your visit. Along with these, certain common medications should also not be taken. These include:
- Sleeping aids
- Allergy medications
- Vitamin E Supplements
- Aspirin
- Warfarin
- Ibuprofen
- Omega 3 oils
Tip 2: Avoid Smoking and Alcohol!
Smoking narrows blood vessels that carry vital nutrients throughout your body. Alcohol, in turn, lowers the number of white blood cells called macrophages in your system. Both of these reactions can cause your body to heal slower after BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Along with this comes an increased risk of bruising. So, we recommend not drinking or smoking for at least 48 hours before the procedure.
Tip 3: Clean Your Skin Before BOTOX® Cosmetic
It’s important to make sure that your skin is free of dirt, makeup, or moisturizers before your injections. Doing so will minimize the risk of infection. When you arrive, our team will clean the injection site with some antiseptic and rubbing alcohol. However, it is best to also clean your skin at home with a mild cleanser and some water before your visit.
Tip 4: Be Transparent About Your Medical History
You should never compromise your health for beauty! During your visit, it is important that you provide us with a complete medical history to ensure a safe and effective procedure. Medical details that you should mention include info on any medications you’re taking (including natural supplements) and whether you have any skin conditions or allergies. Disclosing health conditions, especially those involving respiratory issues, is a must. Aside from this, we need to know about your skincare routine to make sure that the products you are taking will not adversely affect your results.
Tip 5: Just Breathe!
Feeling nervous before any procedure is perfectly normal. Doing your best to put your mind at ease before the treatment can greatly enhance your experience. We recommend setting up an appointment that is convenient for you so you don’t feel rushed. Also, taking some time to listen to music, try aromatherapy, and practice deep breathing can help you feel calmer before the session. We also recommend bringing a loved one to your appointment for support.
